Saalbach Hinterglemm is also ‘the place to be' in the summer because the "Ski Circus" is transformed into the "Bike-Circus" during this season. Saalbach Hinterglemm is part of the top 3 mountain bike areas of which Zell am See Kaprun and Leogang Saalfelden are also a part. The Bike-Circus has a lot to offer mountain bikers with its no fewer than 400 km mountain bike trails and paths. In addition, the 720 km cycle paths in the region offer excellent opportunities for great cycling and touring routes. Mountain bikers that love adventurous mountain trails can use the five lifts that will carry mountain bikes.

Biking in the Saalbach Hinterglemm region
Saalbach Hinterglemm is often referred to as the main part of the mountain bike Mecca of the Alps! The options available are very different for both starting and advanced cyclists. There are, for example, several trails at altitude for starting cyclists that offer breathtaking views of the Glemmtal. For the advanced cyclist, the marathon routes and the more difficult single trails offer ample opportunities. Below we provide a short selection of the different options followed by a few highly enjoyable day routes.

Free ride
The Saalbach Hinterglemm region offers different challenging free ride options to true adrenaline junkies. When free riding, the trick is to cycle downhill as fast as possible. Saalbach Hinterglemm is, therefore, the ideal for this since 5 lifts are operational that will take you and your bike up the mountain. Free riders should definitely not miss the X-Line located on Schattberg X-press and both the Adidas free ride trails. The X-Line starts at the top of the Schattberg X-press, has a total difference in altitude of no less than 1025 metres, has a length of more than 6 km and is, therefore, one of the longest free ride routes in Europe. Both the Adidas free ride routes are situated on Reiterkogelbahn. The Blue Line is an enjoyable descent for starting free riders. The Pro Line is better suited for the more advanced free rider. This route is more of a challenge due to the narrow forest paths and the different jumps.

Mountain biking
By far the most options are available to mountain bikers in Saalbach Hinterglemm. You can, for example, participate in different private mountain bike tours through the local bicycle shop. You can also receive lessons in mountain bike technique during these excursions (for an additional fee).

E-Biking
A true innovation in the area of mountain biking are the E-bikes. E-bikes or, rather, electric bicycles, are mountain bikes that have been provided with a battery and drive system. You have to pedal less with these bicycles, which makes mountain biking pleasant again! You do not have to fear having to cycle into the wind with this type of bicycle because you will always feel as if you are cycling with the wind behind you with an E-bike. These bicycles are, therefore, the ideal solution for people who are not that fit or who are less used to cycling in mountains but who still wish to enjoy all the beautiful things that the Bike-Circus has to offer.

Mountain bike-friendly huts
After an enjoyable day of cycling, you can catch your breath at one the different fun restaurants and cafes in the valley. During your hike/excursion in the mountains, you can relax at one of the more than 30 managed mountain huts. Should your bicycle break down when you are out and about, you can use one of the certified mountain bike-friendly huts. They can be recognised from the sign with this text and they have been especially equipped to assist stranded mountain bikers to get going again. They, for example, have repair material, spare tyres, etc.

The Bike-Circus has a solution for cyclists who are not that experienced. Biking excursions with a guide are offered on a daily basis. These excursions are suitable to both the experienced and starting cyclist. The groups and excursions are composed based on the proficiency of the participants. This will guarantee that you are offered the best possible biking experience!

Multiple day biking excursions in the Saalbach Hinterglemm region
Holidaymakers who are staying in Saalbach Hinterglemm can, of course, also enjoy different multiple day cycling excursions. You can make all the arrangements yourself by mapping out a route and staying in the great guesthouses and "rooms to rent" staying places along the way. However, holidaymakers who are staying in Saalbach Hinterglemm can also join the well-known Tauern Cycle Path. The route starts at the famous Krimmler Waterfalls, runs through the Salzburger Saalachtal Valley and has a total length of no less than 270 km. Those who are good at sums will, therefore, see that the route can be covered in a week when cycling a distance of 40 km per day. Another option is to join the route halfway and only to cycle part of the Tauern Cycle Path.
