Summer water fun in AustriaBy: Petra at 23-06-2021 - reactions
A sun-drenched summer holiday is definitely possible in Austria. You can cool off in a shady forest, high on the tops of the mountains or paddle in one of the countless streams with your bare feet. But there's more. Austria has beautiful lakes with wonderfully clear water and fine beaches or sunbathing areas. For some more action, head up or into the lake; swimming, pedal boating, kayaking and surfing are all possible. If you like to swim, you can opt for a holiday home in Austria with swimming pool access so that you can visit the relevant indoor and outdoor swimming pools in Austria for free. To help you choose, we have listed a few highlights per category:
Small and large mountain lakesAustria has many beautiful large and less large lakes. Near Lake Durlaßboden, near Königsleiten, we rent out various comfortable apartments for couples and families and large holiday homes suitable for a pleasant holiday with grandparents or friends. Lake Durlaßboden is a reservoir in the Zillertal Arena. In the summer months, the water in the lake warms up to about 21°C, making it pleasant to swim. Sporty holidaymakers can also surf, paddle, paddle and kayak on the lake.
Are you staying in one of our chalets near Hochkönig, in or near the mountain villages of Maria Alm and Hinterthal, and do you receive the Hochkönig summer card when you rent your holiday home? Then use the free gondola up (Naturnbahn) and plan a walk that leads you along the Prinsensee, with a beautiful view of the Hochkönig massif. Don't forget to pack your swimsuit and towels because as soon as you see the Prinsensee, you'll want to get straight in!
Badesee Hollersbach is a swimming lake near Bramberg Am Wildkogel, Neukirchen am Großvenediger and Wald im Pingzau - an absolute must for holidaymakers in this area. The natural lake has an exciting adventure playground with a ship, slides, swings and a suspension bridge. In addition, there is also a beach volleyball court and a small skate park. This lake is not ordinarily accessible for free, but with the National Park Sommercard, which you get when you rent various holiday homes in this area, you can go there without restrictions.
Outdoor swimming pools with a viewAs indicated in the introduction, many of our holiday chalets offer free access to one or more swimming pools.
There is nothing better than an open-air swimming pool in Austria for cooling off and relaxing on a sunbathing lawn with beautiful mountain peak views. The heated swimming pool in Mühlbach am Hochkönig is an excellent example of this. What a picture! The pool also has a fun water slide and a special paddling pool with an elephant slide for the little ones. The Hochkönig summer card gives free entry to this pool in Mühlbach and the Sommerstein adventure pool in Maria Alm, which is great for older children thanks to its rapids, long slide and water jets.
The Joker card for activities in the vicinity of Saalbach Hinterglemm gives entrance to the adventure pool Kapt'n Hook! In addition to (the name says it all), this pool has a pirate ship, several slides, a lazy river with inflatable tires, a bubble bath and a climbing net. Kapt'n Hook also has a cinema for children and a restaurant overlooking the pool.
In the vicinity of Mauterndorf, Obertauern, where we also offer great holiday chalets, you can use several outdoor swimming pools thanks to the Lungaucard. For example, get one-time free entry to the 'Erleblnisbad' in Mauterndorf with a paddling pool, slide and again a beautiful view. Furthermore, with the Nationalpark Summer card, also mentioned at the lakes, you also get access to various fine open-air baths such as the bath in Stuhlfelden, where you can slide next to each other with three people at the same time! Enough choice for a holiday home in Austria with pool fun!
Combi indoor and outdoor swimming pools and wellnessWe also have some tips for a swimming pool in Austria with an indoor pool!
With the Lungaucard, you get access to BadeINSEL, where you can certainly enjoy a day of fun thanks to the beautiful outdoor pool, spacious indoor pool, restaurant and other activities such as mini-golf.
Very special is the Kristallbad in Wald in Pingzau, which you also have free access to the National Park Sommercard, or at one of the Schöneben holiday homes. The luxurious Kristallbad has a combination of indoor, outdoor and wellness. Fun for the family but also a very relaxing outing with adults only. In addition to various baths and saunas (a surcharge applies for the sauna), you can also enjoy delicious food here.
Finally, both the Nationalpark Sommercard, the Joker card and the Hochkönig summer card give a nice discount on the Tauern Spa in Kaprun. This beautiful complex, which also has a four-star hotel, offers several indoor and outdoor pools and other highlights such as caves and slides. The spacious sauna and steam room is the ideal place to relax and dream away. Apart from the other baths and spas, there is also a special children's spa. This is a true paradise for children and teenagers looking for water fun. Highlights are the 127-metre long slide and the "Wolfshöhle" cave.
