Wald im Pinzgau is located in Oberpinzgau at the foot of the Gerlos Pass on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol, sitting at an altitude of approximately 900 metres. Wald is a pretty little village with a cosy atmosphere that forms a community together with Königsleiten. From December to the end of April you can enjoy sun and snow here. Destination summary

Wald im Pinzgau is a real alpine village. The Salzach rises on the municipal territory and reaches the village as a lively, rushing mountain stream. Up the valley you reach Königsleiten and from there the high situated ski area of the Zillertal Arena, down the valley the very family friendly Wildkogel Arena and the pretty alpine villages Neukirchen am Großvenediger and Bramberg am Wildkogel. Here in the Zillertal Alps you can enjoy a wonderful panorama with a view of the peaks of the Hohe Tauern. Because the village is situated quite high, you have safe snow conditions throughout the season. Skiers can drive toll-free to the Zillertal Arena ski area or opt to take the environmentally friendly alternative with the free ski bus. Wald im Pinzgau is particularly popular with cross-country skiers.

Wald is an Eldorado for those seeking peace and quiet in the middle of an otherwise quite busy ski scene. Here, everything goes smoothly; relaxation, recreation and enjoyment are at the top of winter guests' wish lists. If you are not drawn to the slopes, then romantic horse-drawn carriage rides, extensive winter hikes or enjoyable hours in the "Kristallbad", a magnificent wellness temple with all comforts, are ideal alternative options.

In addition to the indoor pool, outdoor pool and covered slide, this swimming pool has a large sauna and various wellness rooms that can be used against payment. There is also a bistro in the swimming pool, the 'Bürgerbaron'. The Bürgerbaron is accessible both from them swimming pool and from outside. Here you can enjoy a coffee or a snack while you wait for fellow guests to finish up in the water.

About the ski resorts

Wald im Pinzgau is located between 3 skiing areas: the spacious skiing area of the Zillertal Arena, the skiing area of the Ski Arena Wildkogel and the skiing area Kitzbüheler Alps. These areas are easy to reach by car or free ski bus.

 

The Wildkogel Arena

The ski area of the Wildkogel Arena can be reached by car in only 5 to 10 minutes. The Wildkogel Arena (820 to 2,235m) is a cosy family ski resort with 16 modern ski lifts, 75km of slopes and many great slopes. It belongs to the ski area of the Zillertal Arena.

 

The Zillertal Arena

The ski area of the Zillertal Arena (1,470 – 2,302m) can be reached by car via the Gerlos Pass in the direction of Krimml/Hochkrimml in about 15 to 20 minutes. From Hochkrimml - in the middle of the Gerlosplatte - you have access to the ski area of the Zillertal Arena with 52 modern ski lifts and 147km of slopes, of which 8% are black, 62% red and 30% blue. The ample choice of snow-covered slopes in the Zillertal Arena are there to be enjoyed throughout the season.

 

The Kitzbüheler Alps ski area

The Kitzbüheler Alpen ski area comprises Alpenbach, Kitzbühel, Saalbach Hinterglemm-Leogang, Schneewinkel, SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser/Brixental, Hochtal Wildschönau and Zell am See/Kaprun. It is a very modern ski area with more than 1,000km of slopes. One of the most famous slopes in this area is the 'Hahnenkamm', a very steep slope for advanced skiers.

 

Ski pass

The Zillertal Arena ski pass and the Zillertaler Superskipass are valid for both the Zillertal Arena and the Ski Arena Wildkogel in Neukirchen am Großvenediger. With a valid ski pass you can use the ski bus free of charge between Neukirchen, Wald, Krimml and Königsleiten.

 

Ski school

The sports shop Sports & More Unterwurzacher is located in the centre of Wald im Pinzgau and can be reached on foot from Alpin Chalets/Maisonnettes Schöneben. The ski school is also located in this shop. The ski school offers several ski and snowboard courses. The professionally trained ski instructors guarantee a lot of skiing fun and optimal success for young and old. This ski school belongs to the ski school in Königsleiten and therefore also offers courses there.

Cross-country skiing

Wald im Pinzgau has its own cross-country ski runs of over 7km length. There is also a connection to the 200km-long Pinzgau trail, which stretches from Krimml to Zell am See.

 

Snowboarding

In the Zillertal Arena there are a lot of possibilities for freestylers. The 'Hot-Zone Snowpark' in Gerlos is located at an altitude of 2,020m and covers an area of 30,000m². Beginners as well as advanced players can let off steam here. There is also a small but popular snow park on the Gerlosplatte in Hochkrimml. It is ideal for beginners, as well as for children who want to improve their skills.

 

Tobogganing

Looking for an alternative to skiing? Here, you can look forward to terrific tobogganing fun. The small toboggan run at Gasthof Finkenhof is partly illuminated in the evening and is particularly suitable for children due to the small difference in altitude. The longest illuminated toboggan run in the world is located in Bramberg am Wildkogel about 10km from Wald im Pinzgau.

   

Pinzgau local rail

The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn forms the connection in the Salzach Valley between Zell am See and (Vorder)Krimml. On the way you will reach many excursion destinations and of other exciting ski areas.
