St. Margarethen
The village of St Margarethen is situated between the Katschberg and Aineck mountains at an altitude of 1065 metres and is a typical picturesque Austrian village with a relaxed atmosphere. Après Ski enthusiasts may want to choose a different location. Those who are looking for an active family skiing holiday with the whole family or who are not in need of mass tourism, have come to the right place. From St Margarethen you take the Aineckbahn to arrive at the family-friendly Katschberg-Aineck skiing area with 70 km of runs. At a stone's throw away is St Michael and the adjoining Grosseck-Speiereck skiing area with 30 km of runs. The variety of facilities will give both active and recreational skiers or snowboarders sufficient options for a truly amazing skiing holiday. And for cross-country skiers there are numerous trails available.

St. Margarethen facilities
Direct access to Katschberg-Aineck skiing area | Tourist Information |  6 Restaurants | 3 sport shops | Small supermarket | Bank

Katschberg-Aineck skiing area
From St Margarethen you have direct access to the Katschberg-Aineck skiing area (1100-2200 metres) that is regarded as one of the best Austrian skiing areas. The skiing area is ideal for families who want a skiing holiday but are not keen on mass tourism. Katschberg-Aineck has 16 ski lifts and 70 km of prepared runs, divided as follows: 14% blue runs, 71% red runs, 14% black runs. Despite the majority of the runs being red, beginner skiers do not have to worry, the skiing area is varied and ideal for any type of wintersporter. The 6 km descent from Aineck to St Margarethen comes highly recommended!

Grosseck-Speiereck skiing area
This modern skiing area with guaranteed snow and direct links to Mauterndorf and St Michael im Lungau is well-known as a real family skiing area which despite modern investments has retained the authentic Austrian atmosphere. Grosseck-Speiereck (1100-2400 metres) has 50 km of runs and 12 ski lifts. After an active day, you can visit one of the various ‘schirmbars’ or ski huts for après-ski activities! The skiing area is very varied with plenty of challenges for both beginning and (very) experienced skiers! It is divided up as follows: 52% blue runs | 34% red runs | 14% black runs. Especially the long descent to Mauterndorf (4.5 km) is well worth the effort! There are also several nice places for the powder freaks amongst us to go off-piste.

Lungo ski pass
The LUNGO ski pass allows you unlimited skiing. This pass entitles you to access to all of the Lungauer skiing areas and small ski lifts, including the Obertauern, Grosseck-Speiereck & Katschbergberg-Aineck skiing areas. A total length of runs of no less than 300 km from Katschberg to Obertauern.

Katschberg-Aineck ski pass
An alternative to the Lungo ski pass is the regular ski pass for the Katschberg-Aineck area. There is, however, hardly any difference in price compared to the Lungo ski pass. The advantage of the Lungo card is the fact that you are not tied to the Katschberg-Aineck skiing area.

Ski school
You can choose between 5 ski schools within the Katschberg-Aineck skiing area.

Ski rentals
Book your ski equipment on-line! ChaletsPlus works together with Sport 2000 Friedrich to provide on-line ski equipment reservations. This ensures that you do not spend unnecessary time during your holiday making arrangements and that you are eligible for an attractive discount! How does it work? Go to the chalet or apartment of your choice and choose ski/snow board rental Sport 2000 Friedrich as an extra when booking.

Tobogganing
During the winter season there is a 1.8 km long tobagganing run on the Katschberg. This comes highly recommended and is a nice change after a day of skiing or snowboarding. It costs about 3 Euros to hire a sledge. During the season the tobogganing run is illuminated until 22.00 hours. You must have a go!
