The Großvenediger is the highest mountain of the federal state Salzburg and Neukirchen lies directly at its feet. Located at 856 metres above sea level in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the cosy, authentic Austrian village is an ideal starting point for skiing pleasure of all kinds, especially in the nearby Wildkogel Arena. In this snow-sure ski area, the range of sports on offer is very varied and family-friendly. The Wildkogel lift takes you directly to 2100 metres above sea level. 75 kilometres of slopes are right on your doorstep, and twice as much in the Zillertal Arena next door. Europe's longest illuminated toboggan run is fun for children and parents alike. You can spend the evening in one of our cosy holiday apartments or in the no less cosy town centre. Neukirchen is a friendly, inviting village that offers the holidaymaker everything they need to get by, with a range of sports shops, ski schools, medical facilities, supermarkets, restaurants and more. The excellent ski and snowboard instructors at the Neukirchen-based ski schools can teach you the latest techniques and styles, ensuring you’re fully prepared to take to the slopes. In addition to excellent downhill runs, Europe's longest illuminated toboggan run attracts you to the Wildkogel. Cross-country skiers have many kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes at their disposal. And in the various "Schirmbars" and ski huts you can end an active day with après-ski.

Neukirchen am Großvenediger is part of the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, an area of sporting interest with a uniquely rich composition of mountain ranges. Here at the Tauern Window, a wide variety of rock layers lie open and reveal the geological history of the region, which is dozens of millions of years old. Learn more about the unique nature and the rich flora and fauna at the Nationalpark museum, located in the village Mittersil. Neukirchen is known for its gentle, climate-friendly tourism and is rightfully proud of the "Alpine Pearls" award.

In neighbouring Bramberg am Wildkogel, you can admire the mining tradition and impressive mineral collections. If you feel like a winter hike, the Salzach valley, the Großvenediger, the Smaragdweg and the Untersulzbach waterfall are all tempting options. Culture is not neglected either.
At the Tauriska-Kammerlanderstall or in the Cinétheatro Neukirchen, run by an artist initiative for 30 years, you will be offered a programme with plenty of variety, from cabaret to concerts and readings. Swimming fun and wellness await you in the nearby crystal pool. You will certainly be curious about the Pinzgau cuisine, where you can delve into the delicious offerings with a wide selection of restaurants.

About the ski resorts

Neukirchen lies at the foot of the Wildkogel Arena ski area and is close to the extensive ski areas of the Zillertal Arena and the Kitzbühel Alps. These areas are easy to reach by car or free ski bus. The ski area of the Zillertal Arena (1470 - 2302 metres) can be reached via the Gerlos Pass in the direction of Krimml/Hochkrimml in about 10 minutes by car. The Kitzbüheler Alpen-Gondel, the so-called Kitzbüheler Alpen-Panoramabahn in Hollersbach, can also be reached from Neukirchen within 30 minutes by car.

 

The Wildkogel Arena

The Wildkogel Arena is a varied family ski area with 16 modern ski lifts and a total of 75km of slopes. The slopes are divided into 46% blue slopes, 41% red slopes and 13% black slopes. Because the slopes are wide, children and beginners also have a lot of fun. The Wildkogel Arena has beautiful children's areas and many care facilities. Snowboarders can let off steam in a fun park with a half-pipe. Due to its special location in a depression with mostly northern slopes, the Wildkogel Arena's snow reliability and snow quality are remarkably good.

 

The ski area Kitzbüheler Alpen

The ski area Kitzbüheler Alpen is a very modern ski area with more than 100km of slopes. One of the most famous slopes in this area is the 'Hahnenkamm', a very steep slope for advanced skiers. The Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Mittersill/ Hollersbach can be reached from Neukirchen in 10 minutes by car.

 

The Zillertal Arena

The Zillertal Arena is very snow-sure, and thanks to its southern location (on the Gerlos Pass) you can enjoy wonderful hours of sunshine. Until the end of April, you can still ski in the sun! The area has 52 modern ski lifts and 143km long slopes, of which 8% are black, 62% red and 30% blue. The 320 hectares of snow-covered slopes are guaranteed to snow throughout the entire season. In addition to skiing, the 200km long network of cross-country trails offers excellent cross-country skiing opportunities. You can reach the Zillertal Arena (1470 - 2302m) via the Gerlos Pass in the direction of Krimml/Hochkrimml in about 10 minutes by car.

 

Ski pass

The Wildkogel Arena ski pass is used in the Wildkogel Arena. With this ski pass, you have access to all lifts in the Wildkogel Arena. With this pass, you can also use the free ski bus from various stops in Neukirchen and Bramberg to the valley station of the Wildkogel Arena. There is also a free bus connection to Königsleiten. If you want more: With the Zillertal Arena Pass, you can use two ski areas at the same time as the Wildkogel is included.

In addition to various children's courses, there are also various possibilities for very young children. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 can enjoy themselves to their heart's content in the Kinderland, while they are taught the tricks of the trade in a playful way. Tobogganing

The 14km illuminated toboggan run from Wildkogel to Bramberg is particularly popular with both children and adults. The toboggan run starting on the Wildkogel with a length of no less than 14km is open daily until 10pm.

After a ride in the "Wildkogelbahn" you will reach an altitude of approx. 2150 metres. From here you make a short 15-minute hike and then start the fun 45-minute descent to Bramberg am Wildkogel. From Bramberg, the toboggan run with the emerald run is directly accessible. The ski bus takes you back to the starting point in Neukirchen am Großvenediger.
 

Cross-country skiing

Neukirchen and Bramberg have more than 45km of perfectly prepared cross-country trails with an impressive view of the Großvenediger. You also have access to the 200km long Pinzgauer Loipe, which leads from Krimml to Zell am See.
 

Pinzgauer Local Railway

The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn forms the connection in the Salzach Valley between Zell am See and (Vorder)Krimml. On the way, you will reach many excursion destinations and of more exciting ski areas.
