Maria Alm lies at an altitude of around 800 meters. It is a traditional Austrian village situated in the beautiful landscape of the Hochkönig holiday region near Lake Steinernen. The Hochkönig is a 2,941 meter high mountain in the Austrian Salzburg region, making it the highest peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps, which is also the name of the surrounding mountain range. The Hochkönig is located west of the city of Bischofshofen, around 42 km south of Salzburg. The towns of Maria Alm and Hinterthal run more or less into one another. Maria Alm and Hinterthal are centrally located in the Ski Amadé region in Salzburgerland.

In Maria Alm
Maria Alm is a small village with a population of around 2,200. This picturesque village is almost entirely car-free, perfect for those looking for relaxation and peace and quiet. There is a varied selection of shops and supermarkets for daily groceries and several ski schools. Those wanting to experience a traditional Austrian village have come to the right place here. There are several hiking trails and cross-country ski trails. Sleigh rides through the beautiful nature are a must. Maria Alm has a variety of inviting restaurants and après ski bars for an enjoyable evening out.

Ski Maria Alm
Maria Alm has a number of slopes in the village itself that are perfect for beginning skiers. From the Natrunlift lift and via the Sonnbergabfahrt, you have access to the Aberg gondola, which can take you to the surrounding ski resorts. Maria Alm is part of the Hochkönig region.

Hochkönig ski area
In the Hochkönig ski area you can enjoy wonderful, snow-sure slopes at altitudes of 860 to 1,900 m. Snow cannons are used every winter to provide skiers with the best possible snow. There are a total of 33 lifts and you can enjoy no fewer than 120 km of slopes, 52 km of which are blue runs, 41 km red runs, 9 km black runs and 8 km of ski routes.

Ski Amadé ski area
Experienced skiers looking for a challenge will find it in the Hochkönig ski area, since it is also a part of Ski Amadé. Ski Amadé is a combination of the areas Schladming/Dachstein Tauern, Salzburger Sportwelt, the Hochkönig region, Gastein and Großarltal, with a total of 760 km of slopes and 270 lifts!

Ski passes
Visitors to the Hochkönig region can purchase the Ski Amadé ski pass. Ski passes issued for more than one day allow you to ski or snowboard throughout the Ski Amadé region. Less fanatical skiers can also purchase a day pass. These can only be used in the Hochkönig region. You can also purchase the Salzburg Super Ski Card, which is valid in 21 ski regions and gives access to an astonishing 2,540 km of slopes!

Tobogganing
There are various options for toboggan enthusiasts in the Hochkönig ski area, including the toboggan run at Gasthof Jufenalm in Hinterthal. The Jufenalm toboggan run, which is 2.5 km long, is on the north side – your snow guarantee!

Cross-country skiing
Maria Alm is ideal for cross-country skiers. The Hochkönig ski area has a total of over 40 km of trails, 30 km of which are in Maria Alm. Even the most experienced cross-country skier will find a trail to his or her liking, such as the 7 km-long Panorama trail between Dienten and Mühlbach. In the evening, skiers can enjoy the illuminated Gastegl trail.
