Skiing area Obertauern, located at an altitude of 1740 m is a unique and extremely snow-guaranteed skiing area. The area offers perfect snow conditions from the end of November until the beginning of May, and so the skiing season of the Obertauern is no less than 160 days !

The skiing area Obertauern offers a total of 100 km of pistes, the majority of which are blue- and red runs and 26 modern lifts. This skiing region is very suitable for beginners, but will also please the more experienced skier. There is a black run of approx. 4 km, as well as a number of challenging ski routes and off-piste possibilities. The freestyle fanatics will appreciate the Snowpark The Spot. This Funpark accommodates various Easy-Lines and Medium-Lines.

The fanatical winter sports-lovers can even use the pistes in the evening. The Edelweißbahn is illuminated and open every Monday and Thursday between 19:00h and 22:00h.
The Obertauern Ski pass is required in the skiing area of Obertauern. This ski pass is also valid in the skiing region of Grosseck-Speiereck in Mauterndorf /St. Michael in Lungau!
In addition, you can also use the LUNGO Ski pass. This pass allows you to enjoy skiing on no less than 300 km of pistes in 4 different skiing areas: Obertauern, Katschberg/Aineck, Grosseck/Speiereck and Fanningberg.
The modern hands-free system ensures that your ski pass can remain in your pocket as you go through the gates. You pay a €2,0 deposit which will be returned to you when you hand in the pass.
A valid ski pass allows you free access to the ski bus service that runs between the ski regions. They run about once an hour.
There are a number of Ski- and Snowboarding schools in Obertauern. The ski and snowboard instructors at the various ski schools can teach you privately or in groups so that you can master this technique perfectly. You can opt for a learning programme of one week, or for just a few days, while enjoying lovely descents, ski runs or deep-snow descents and improving your technique.
And would you like to try something new? Then go for “Snow biking”. An ideal sport for active people who have knee problems, as this sport does not overpressure your knees and joints. Do you use a motorcycle or bicycle on a regular basis? Then it won´t be long before you race down the piste on your snow bike! Ski school Koch in Obertauern offers courses for groups and organises snow bike tours under the supervision of a guide.
A ‘new’ sport that is now also available in the winter is snow kiting. Just like with kite surfing, you soar on your snowboard or skis under large kite across the mountains. The Snow kite school Obertauern (at 2000 metres) organises various training courses on every level to help you master snow kiting.
Snowboarding & Freestyling
The Snowpark The Spot in Obertauern is popular among snowboarders and free/stylers. The park can be easily reached via the chair lift at the Kehrkopf. The Funpark is fun for both beginners as well as the more experienced skier and accommodates no less than 40 elements on 3 different pistes and with a total length of 3 km. In addition, there is also a Powder kicker zone and a free ride route.
Skiing area Obertauern has 5 extremely well-prepared langlauf runs totalling 70 km.
There are two different tobogganing runs in Obertauern with a total length of 6.5 km. The Gnadenalm Toboggan run is open in the evenings and is illuminated, making it perfect for the fanatical skier who enjoys some adventure on the toboggan run in the evening. This toboggan run is located at a mere 4 km outside Obertauern. A Ski-doo toboggan taxi (motorised snowmobile) brings the participants to the start of the toboggan run.
The toboggan run at the Südweinerhütte is 5 km long and runs past this hut.
