Discover and enjoy Mittersill in the summer!

The tranquil and beautifully situated Mittersill, located in the Austrian Salzburger Land, is surrounded by popular tourist towns such as Zell Am See, Krimml, and Kitzbühel. Mittersill itself is the center of the Oberpinzgau region and offers everything you need for a fantastic summer vacation. A little extra inspiration never hurts, though. That's why in this blog, we'll take a closer look at the most enjoyable summer activities in Mittersill and the surrounding area!
Exploring Nature!
The stunning mountain landscape is likely the reason for planning a summer vacation to Austria. There are countless hiking trails, mountain bike routes, and cycle paths that wind through forests and meadows, past breathtaking viewpoints and streams. The pristine nature of the Hohe Tauern National Park is enchantingly beautiful, with a total of 15,000 animal species and 1800 different trees, plants, and flowers. If you want to learn more about this, visit the National Park Hohe Tauern Museum in Mittersill. The Nationalparkzentrum is entertaining, educational, and features, among other things, a 360-degree film and a 3D film that will surely impress children!

Europe's Highest Waterfall
Just a half-hour drive from Mittersill are the Krimml Waterfalls, a visit to these impressive waterfalls being one of the most popular excursions in Austria. The force with which the water cascades down creates a spectacular natural spectacle. With an impressive height of 380 meters, these are the largest waterfalls in Europe and the fifth largest in the world. It takes about 3 hours to hike to the top of the waterfall, over a distance of four kilometers. Don't underestimate the distance, especially towards the end, as the path becomes quite steep! So, make sure everyone wears sturdy hiking shoes and that there are plenty of snacks and drinking water in the backpack. Of the four parking lots, P4 is the closest to the waterfall itself, but it often fills up first, especially in summer, so arrive early! It's also advisable to bring a poncho and a waterproof bag. In June, the waterfalls are at their most powerful, and you can get quite wet from the splashing water at some parts of the trail!Water Fun
The climate in Mittersill is moderate, with temperatures rarely rising above 25 degrees. However, the sunny weather provides enough warmth to relax at one of the beautiful mountain lakes in the Oberpinzgau region. Just a few minutes' drive from Mittersill is the Badesee, a beautiful swimming lake with a fountain, sunbathing lawns, and a fun playground. The Freischwimmbad in Mittersill itself, located in the municipality, is very affordable (check if it's on your summer card) and features a fun slide and pools with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. If you're looking for a luxurious wellness experience, inquire at Schloss Mittersill, dating back to the 16th century. Currently, it houses a hotel restaurant with facilities such as a spa, sauna, and outdoor pool.
