Destination summary

The idyllic village of Hinterthal lies in nestled in nature against the backdrop of the Hochkönig. The quiet village is located right between Maria Alm, to whose municipality it belongs, and Dienten am Hochkönig. Both villages have a selection of shops, while Maria Alm also a supermarket. Hinterthal forms together with the ski villages Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach the holiday region Hochkönig, which is part of the extensive ski area Ski Amadé.

Hinterthal is a small, typically Austrian village. It is situated in a prime location and breathes the alpine atmosphere of clear air and thick powder snow at every turn. There is even a ski school on offer. In addition to various hiking trails and cross-country skiing trails, there is the possibility of a horse-drawn sleigh tour through the breathtaking countryside. Whoever descends from the slopes and feels like a Jagertee or a wheat beer can meet with like-minded friends and fellow travellers in the super cosy Schirmbar for après-ski.

A ski bus departs regularly from the villages Maria Alm - Aberg - Hintermoos - Hinterthal and takes you around the surrounding area. These buses can be used by skiers with ski equipment and a valid ski pass. So if you want to get on the slopes as fast and uncomplicated as possible, Hinterthal is a good choice for you.

The Northern Limestone Alps are particularly suitable for admirers of high, steep rock faces and pointed peaks. The Hochkönig is their highest mountain and impresses with a stunning massif. Not far away lies the stone sea, which forms an impenetrable rock labyrinth from the German border. Even if the peaks don't quite reach the 3000 metres, one has to drive for a long time until one gets to see mountains that match these.
