Idyllic Hinterthal lies in the middle of pristine nature with the Hochkönig mountain in the background. Hinterthal lies halfway between the villages of Maria Alm and Dienten. Neither of these are large villages. Maria Alm has a few more shops and a larger supermarket. Hinterthal is a part of the holiday region of Hochkönig, together with the villages of Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach, and is located centrally in the Ski Amadé ski area in Salzburgerland.

Hinterthal
The village of Hinterthal is a small, traditional Austrian village. It is quiet and scenically located with a ski school. Those wanting to experience a traditional Austrian village have come to the right place here. There are several walking routes and cross-country trails and you can take a sled trip through scenic nature. Those interested in the après ski scene will find a very friendly ‘schirmbar’ in the village.

Hinterthal ski resort
Hinterthal itself has 3 lifts, including an excellent beginner’s/children's slope. Taking the lift to connect to the ski area is only for advanced skiers. The descent to Hinterthal is a difficult run (red and/or black run).

Hochkönig and Ski Amadé ski region
Hinterthal is part of the Hochkönig region ski area. Here you can enjoy wonderful snow-sure slopes at altitudes of 860 to 1,900 m. Snow cannons are used every winter to provide skiers with the best possible snow. There are 33 ski lifts in total, taking you to an amazing 120 km of slopes! But that’s not all. The Hochkönig ski region is also part of the Ski Amadé area. Ski Amadé is a combination of the areas Schladming/Dachstein Tauern, Salzburger Sportwelt, the Hochkönig region, Gastein and Großarltal, with a total of 760 km of slopes and 270 lifts.

Snowboarding
There are three fun parks in the Hochkönig region for snowboarders, all of which are well equipped. The Natrum Snow Park is perfect for beginners, while the Blue Tomato Kinds and Livingroom Snow Park are great for experienced snowboarders. The Ski Amadé region is known as the ultimate freestyle paradise, with a total of 14 snow parks. Fun guaranteed!

Ski passes
The ski pass for the Ski Amadé region is also used in the Hinterthal-Hochkönig region. Ski passes issued for more than one day allow you to ski or snowboard throughout the Ski Amadé region. Less fanatical skiers can also purchase a day pass. These can only be used in the Hochkönig region. You can also purchase a Salzburg Super Ski Card, which is valid in 21 ski regions and gives access to an astonishing 2,540 km of slopes!

Tobogganing
There are various options for toboggan enthusiasts in the Hochkönig ski area, including a toboggan run at Gasthof Jufenalm in Hinterthal.

Cross-country skiing
Cross-country skiers can enjoy 40 km of trails, spread across the regions of Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach.

Ski bus
A ski bus runs between the villages of Maria Alm - Aberg - Hintermoos – Hinterthal. The ski and other shuttles in Hochkönig can be used by skiers wearing ski equipment and with a valid ski pass.
