The Salzburgerland is well-known amongst winter sports enthusiasts, but did you know that the area is also ideal for a summer holiday? Villages such as Wald im Pinzgau, Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, Bramberg am Wildkogel and Saalbach have myriads of summer activities and are great for exploring in summer. You will be amazed by the beauty of the surroundings of the Salzburgerland the diversity of the flora and fauna in the area.

Salzburgerland in summer

One of the major summer attractions in the Salzburgerland is National Park Hohe Tauern. This is one of the largest nature reserves in Europe, and it is great to explore it on foot, by mountain bike or on the water. The area has several high mountain peaks, lakes, waterfalls, streams and rivers, so it offers excellent opportunities for sports like canyoning, rafting, hang gliding, paragliding and mountain climbing.

The Salzburgerland also offers a major summer festival once a year: the Salzburger Festspiele. One of the reasons that this festival is held is the fact that Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and during the festivities in the month of July the area hosts a number of musical and drama performances.

In summer you can also explore the Salzburgerland on the water. You can take a boat trip on the Wolfgangsee, for instance, on paddle steamer Kaiser Franz Josef 1, which has been in operation since 1873. On this steamer you can enjoy a trip across the beautiful lake and see the Salzburgerland from a completely different perspective.
