The Zillertal Arena offers countless hiking routes for all levels: from relaxed family walks to challenging mountain treks with breathtaking views. In this blog, we’ll share some of the most beautiful hiking trails, all easily accessible from your chalet.
🏞️ 1. Krimml Waterfalls & the waterfall promenade
- Starting point: Krimml
- Length: approx. 4 km (one way)
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Highlight: Europe’s highest waterfalls
A must-see in the region. A well-maintained path guides you past the three spectacular tiers of the Krimml Waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll find viewpoints and places to rest. The sheer power of the water, the mist, and the unspoiled nature make this a truly memorable hike.
🌄 2. Panorama Trail Gerlosplatte
- Starting point: Hochkrimml
- Length: approx. 6 km (round trip)
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate
- Highlight: Panoramic views over the valley
This route starts close to many of our chalets in Hochkrimml and takes you along a peaceful path with endless views. Perfect if you’re looking for serenity and scenery without too much climbing.
🧭 3. Wildgerlostal – hiking through untouched nature
- Starting point: Gasthof Finkau
- Length: approx. 6–10 km (round trip)
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Highlight: Authentic alpine valley with a traditional mountain hut
The Wildgerlostal is a picturesque valley where you walk alongside a bubbling river, surrounded by flower-filled meadows and towering peaks. Halfway along the route, you’ll reach the Trisslalm, an ideal lunch spot with a terrace and alpine charm.

🚠 4. Isskogel Panorama Circular Trail
- Starting point: Isskogelbahn mountain station, Gerlos
- Length: approx. 5–7 km (various options)
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate
- Highlight: High-altitude hiking above the treeline
Take the cable car up to 1,900 metres and choose from several panoramic routes. With views over the valleys and on clear days the Großvenediger, it’s an easy way to enjoy hiking at altitude without a tough climb.
👨👩👧👦 5. Family-friendly hike: Around Lake Durlassboden
- Starting point: Gerlos
- Length: approx. 9 km (loop)
- Difficulty: Easy
- Highlight: Swimming spots, playgrounds and picnic areas
This flat trail around the reservoir is perfect for families. It’s suitable for pushchairs and buggies, and there are plenty of spots to play, rest, or take a dip. Pack a picnic and enjoy a full day out in nature.
⛰️ 6. Challenging hike: to the Reichenspitze summit
- Starting point: Zittauer Hütte (accessible via Wildgerlostal)
- Length: approx. 16 km return (from Finkau car park)
- Difficulty: Difficult
- Highlight: Mountain peak at 3,303 metres
For experienced hikers, the ascent to the Reichenspitze is a real adventure. The trail leads you through the Wildgerlostal and past the Zittauer Hütte to the majestic summit. Expect glaciers, alpine lakes and rugged peaks. Not for beginners, but truly unforgettable.
