Königsleiten is located on the border of the Austrian states of Salzburg and Tyrol (Zillertal) and at a distance of approx. 9 km from Gerlos and 13 km from Krimml. This small, beautiful mountain/holiday village is located at an altitude of 1600 m in the middle of the Zillertal and the Hohe Tauern National Park. Königsleiten and Wald im Pinzgau form a single municipality.
In Königsleiten Modern restaurants and pizzerias ensure many enjoyable hours. There is a supermarket in the centre of the village. This supermarket carries all your daily shopping needs. In addition, the village has a bank and several restaurants.
The Kristallbad swimming pool The Kristallbad swimming pool is located near the village of Wald im Pinzgau. The swimming pool has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool with sunbathing areas and deck chairs, a covered slide, an extensive sauna, wellness rooms and fitness area that can be visited at an additional charge. The swimming pool also has a restaurant, ‘Kristallstüberl’. The ‘stube’ (pub) is attractively furnished and can be accessed both from the swimming pool and from outside. A good place to enjoy a cup of coffee, a snack or a simple meal.
The observatory A visit to the highest observatory of Europe is certainly worthwhile on clear days. You will become familiar with the stars during the various shows at the planetarium after which you can see them close up!
Sports shops In the various sports shops you can rent various summer sports articles or buy bicycles and mountain bikes.
Active (family) holiday Königsleiten is an ideal place for young and old alike. There is something to do for everyone: How about parasailing, trout fishing, hiking, mountain climbing, going on a tour from hut to hut, cycling and using your mountain bike, sunbathing and, of course, relaxing! In Königsleiten you can experience everything a summer holiday should offer.
Hohe Tauern National Park Königsleiten in summer is very special. The sunny southern slopes make it a beautiful walking area that borders on to the Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest nature reserve in central Europe with 1800 m² and no fewer than 10000 animal species! The Hohe Tauern National Park includes sections of Salzburgerland, East Tyrol and Carinthia and is the largest protected nature reserve in the Alps. A large section of the Hohe Tauern National Park is an alpine area. The highest summits of Austria can be found in this region: the Grossglockner (3798 m) and the Grossvenediger (3674 m) and the longest glacier of the East Alps: the Pasterzenkees. The high mountains invite you to enjoy an active holiday. They are undoubtedly amongst the most beautiful hiking areas of Austria. We strongly recommend that you also visit the Hohe Tauern National Park Centre in Mittersill.
The "Hohe Tauern Card"! The National Park will be issuing the Hohe Tauern Card as from the summer of 2010. This card will offer you excellent options to come to know the National Park and its different places of interest better. You will be able to visit no fewer than 160 places of interest and activities for a single price with this card. Examples are different fortresses, castles, museums and exhibitions in the region.
The Krimmler Waterfalls During your stay in Wald im Pinzgau you should really pay a visit to the Krimmler Waterfalls. They are the highest waterfalls in Europe measuring 380 metres in total. The waterfalls are located near the village of Krimml at approx. 12 minutes by car from Königsleiten.
WasserWunderWelt The WasserWunderWelt theme park can be found at the waterfalls. The name, WaterWonderWorld, already provides a clue that water is the main feature of this park. The different attractions in the park will teach children of all ages how water works. The power of water is demonstrated through practical experiments.
The reservoir You probably did not know it existed! A lake at an altitude of 1,400 m with water at a pleasant temperature in the summer months. Let your feet cool off after an enervating hike full of surprises or relax by diving in the lake. The reservoir is also appreciated by surfers, sailors and pedal boat users. Flying Fox, Hochseilgarten (High wire garden), mountaineering, etc. The Alpin Adventureschule Unterwurzacher in Wald Im Pinzgau is more than willing to arrange a fun challenge: Flying Fox, high wire garden, canyoning and climbing. Or opt for alpine lessons, tours (one day or multiple days) under the guidance of fully state-qualified teachers. The years of experience, technical know-how and personal knowledge of the teachers guarantee a fantastic adventure.
The Salzburg state Seven locations in Salzburg state are really worth visiting. There is something for everyone. The available attractions range from ice caves to the Salzburg’s castles and palaces. Four historical buildings are especially worth visiting. Visit these buildings and experience the adventure and the culture of the past or visit the ice caves. These caves were created by subterranean water through erosion that lasted million of years and which later were taken over by the ice cave system. There are no caves like it in the whole world. Get to know old Austria by visiting a unique open-air museum near Salzburg. Here you will find 70 original buildings, including authentic farms and aromatic herb gardens. A visit to the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, should, of course, not be missed. During one of the many walks you can become acquainted with this region.
Golf The beautiful 18-hole Mittersill-Stuhlfelden Golf Course is located in Mittersill, only 40 minutes by car from Königsleiten. Play golf while you enjoy the view of the mountains, lakes and rivers with large quantities of trout! The Kaprun Golf Course, with its 36 fairways and greens, is located in Zell am See an hour away from Königsleiten. The 'Schmittenhöhe' and 'Kitzsteinhorn' courses, named after various mountains in the region, make up the largest golf resort of the Austrian Alps. You can also play golf in Kitzbühel, right in the middle of the impressive mountain landscape. The golf & country club Rasmushof is located 70 minutes by car from Königsleiten. The fairways and greens of the 9-hole golf course are perfect for beginners. However, there are also plenty of challenges for more experienced players.
